About Midori Spa

Midori Spa is an independent directory of massage and spa businesses in the United States, published at midorispa.com. It exists because the category is unusually badly served: search results are dominated by booking platforms that only list studios paying to be there, and by review sites that mix a licensed massage therapist, a laser clinic and a nail bar into one undifferentiated list.

Where the data comes from

Listings are compiled from Overture Maps, an open place dataset published by a consortium of mapping organizations. Nobody pays to appear here and nobody can pay to rank higher. We do not accept payment for placement, and we do not remove a listing because a business dislikes being listed.

Open place data is broad but imperfect. Businesses close, move, get reclassified and get sold, and the dataset takes time to catch up. Every listing on this site should be treated as a lead worth phoning, not as a verified record.

How listings are sorted

Each listing is put in one of seven categories - massage therapy, day spa, medical spa, facials and skin care, bodywork and reflexology, sauna and recovery, and resort or hotel spa - based on its category in the source data and the words in its name. That classification is automated, so it is occasionally wrong, and it is the single most useful thing to tell us about if it is.

Some businesses that call themselves spas are deliberately excluded: hot tub and pool dealers, nail and hair salons, lash and brow bars, tanning studios, pet groomers and car detailers. They all use the word, and none of them is what someone searching for a spa is looking for.

Why a big city page is not a complete list

Massage and spa is one of the densest business categories in the United States. Left uncapped, a handful of metros would contribute more listings than thirty states combined and the site would be unusable. Each city therefore contributes a limited number of listings, ranked to favor independent businesses over chain branches and records with full contact details over sparse ones. A city page is a good sample, not a census.

What a listing is not

A listing is not an endorsement, a recommendation, or any kind of check on credentials, insurance, hygiene or conduct. We have not visited these businesses and we do not verify licenses. What we can do is point you at the body that does: every state page and every listing page links to the regulator that licenses massage therapists in that state, and the license board lookup covers all of them, including the states that have no statewide license at all.

The guides and calculators on this site are general information written for people booking a treatment, not clinical guidance. Massage, heat and cold therapies are genuinely contraindicated for some people and some conditions. If you are pregnant, on blood thinners, in cancer treatment, or managing a heart, circulatory, neurological or skin condition, ask your clinician before booking, and tell the practitioner what is going on.

How this site pays for itself

Midori Spa carries advertising and earns affiliate commission on some outbound links, at no extra cost to you. It has no effect on which businesses are listed or how they are ordered: listings come from the automated pipeline described above, which has no input for advertising. See the affiliate disclosure.

Corrections and removals

If a listing is wrong, closed, miscategorised or should not be here, email hello@midorispa.com with the page address and what is wrong. Every listing page also has a prefilled correction link at the bottom. Removal requests from the business itself are honoured without argument.
